« La Provence » : Marseille : a network of  Beds and Breakfast and guesthouses for and around the « Hôpital Nord »

The newspaper « la Provence » published Monday 16th of February, an article devoted to the Inhabitants’ Cooperative Hôtel du Nord : Marseille : un réseau de chambres d’hôtes pour l’hôpital Nord.

Here an excerpt of the newspaper article :

… The Hôtel du Nord cooperative which could be called a « humanism/humanity factory » is not only destined for tourists : as the « Hôpital Nord” (North Hospital) will celebrate its 50th anniversary in June 2015, the AP-HM* (*Public Welfare -Marseille Hospitals) asked the Cooperative to imagine, and create very special heritage walks all around and tailored to the history and surroundings of the « Hôpital Nord ». The Hôtel du Nord cooperative wants to extend this bond to the Hospital and try and develop from now on a network of lodgings (Beds and Breakfast, guest houses) for the Hôpital Nord patients’ families. Agnès Maillard, one of the cooperative’s members, (used to hosting Hôtel du Nord « passengers » at her place) says : « We became more and more aware that there was a real need for it. We actually received more than once either people who were paying a visit to a patient, or caregivers training at the hospital. » In the neighbourhood, half a dozen guest houses’ owners do notice the same. « We think we must be more, we wish other people would join us and open many more Beds and Breakfast and/or guesthouses near the Hospital. » Beside the Campanile, or the Bonsaï Hotel, there are no other hotels in this actual area of the Northern districts of Marseille. Actually, there are indeed few hotels covering the whole of the 15th, 16th, 14th et 13th « arrondissements » of Marseille… Louis Duffet, another Hôtel du Nord’s member notes : « Demand is high though, and the AP-HM (Public Welfare -Marseille Hospitals) should remember our cooperative and its many lodgings and tell the families about it. »
